kitchen towel
I made this artwork for the first time back in 2019 after watching loads of British Bake Off. I now work in a professional bakery as well as run my design business, and I can tell you, the cup measures get dusty. However, our scales are so hardworking that Emma has written "#1 Scale" on one of them, and that moniker is serious business. It's pretty bonkers that we use volume measures for dry goods here in the United States, but alas, I have many precious recipes using cups and teaspoons. If you need to do a conversion, this towel can help.
These 55/45 Hemp & Organic Cotton towels were hand stitched here in Ithaca by Natasha Keller. Designed to be lush and long lasting, they might even contribute to the health of our food, as I was paying close attention to materials and processes throughout its creation.
Hemp is fairly magical for reasons beyond its family's psychedelic tendencies. Hemp fabrics shed dirt more than other fabrics, get softer with each wash, and rapidly absorb moisture. And, hemp is stronger wet than dry. The plants are tough too, requiring few pesticides and little water, and have been shown to remove heavy metals and toxins from the soil. Hemp is perfect for a hardworking kitchen towel.
The artwork was made by me, obvi, and printed by the sweet folks Ink Brigade with water based ink. Water based inks are another way to mitigate the amount of plastics in our environment.
Please send me a note at coralee.m@gmai.com if you want a towel. They're $35 ea.
